Hazardous Materials:

    1-   What is household hazardous waste?

Certain materials are classified as hazardous waste.  These include materials such as motor oil, paints, pesticides, household chemicals, and fertilizers.  These materials are extremely dangerous to the environment and cannot be placed in your regular trash receptacles.  For information on disposing of  these materials call Virgin Valley Disposal at 702-346-5396.

Even though many of these products can be purchased at  your local store, they can still be harmful to you, your family and the environment.  To identify these products, check the label on the container for key words, such as...

DANGER, WARNING, CORROSIVE, FLAMMABLE, EXPLOSIVE,     OXIDIZER, IRRITANT, HARMFUL, FATAL, POISON.

Disposing of household hazardous waste in your trash or dumping them down the storm drains or into sewer and septic systems can be dangerous to your health, the health of others and the environment.  Thrown into your trash can, they can pose a threat to refuse collectors and workers.  Dumped onto the ground or street, these type of materials can be drank by pets which can lead to death or serious harm.

    2-    How to reduce and help the accumulation of Household Hazardous Waste:

  • Only buy what you can use.

  • Share leftovers with friends, neighbors, etc.

  • Recycle used motor oil, antifreeze, car batteries, and paints.

  • Buy safer alternatives to hazardous household products.

  • Follow label directions.

  • Store unused products in a safe, dry, cool place.

 

 

 

Transportation:

 

  1. Transportation Guidelines:

     

    • Do not mix household hazardous waste.

    • Containers must be closed, labeled, and not leaking.

    • A maximum of 55 gallons of motor oil may be transported per vehicle per visit.


 

Holidays:

 

  1. What days of the year is Virgin Valley Disposal closed?

     

    • New Year's Day

    • President's Day

    • Memorial Day

    • Independence Day (4th of July)

    • Labor Day

    • Veteran's Day

    • Thanksgiving Day 

    • Day after Thanksgiving

    • Christmas

Remember, just because Virgin Valley Disposal is closed, does not mean that the City of Mesquite's Landfill is closed.

On most holidays our trucks still run and pickup refuse.  Our office will be closed on the above days, but our trucks still run.
